What a surprise....

Last Friday night we all went out to dinner for Rebecca's Birthday (Another post about her Birthday will come later). It was a delicious vegan restaurant and we were having a lot of fun. Just as dinner was finishing I felt someone grab me at my side. "WHAT? WHO IS THAT?" I thought. After all pretty much everyone I knew in Baltimore was seated at the table.

As I turned guess who I saw? KEN! He had come to surprise me for my Christmas present. I was pretty surprised to say the least.

Hopefully he'll like the present I get him for Christmas just as much.

Christmas Lights

There are a group of people who live on 34'Th street in Baltimore
They love Christmas way too much
And take their street name way too seriously
But its really enjoyable for the rest of us

I love the farmers market!

Every Sunday morning at least one person from our house walks down to the farmers market to pick up our produce for the week. All of the food is grown fairly locally and we are able to get it for a lot cheaper than at the grocery store. We are also able to get our eggs and milk. The free samples and 25 cent honey sticks are my favorite. The produce we buy there is equally amazing. The flavor in the produce is wonderful and I have began to love vegetables in a whole new way.

Next week is sadly the last week of the market until May; however, this week when Kelly and I arrived we were greeted with a fairly empty market. Where there are usually crowds of people swarming tables we found no one. There were spaces in the rows of tables and even the farmers that did show up had very limited produce.

This was very depressing. We have grown used to having very good produce and have become fairly spoiled by it. The other day I had a tomato in a salad and commented on how it was not good. My roommate informed me that their was nothing wrong with the tomato it was just from the grocery store and I was used to produce that was extremely fresh.

Who knew that I would move to a city and gain the taste of a farmer?

If you have the chance to buy your produce at a local market I strongly encourage it. Its better for the environment, your body, your wallet, and most definitely your mouth.

Usually this would be packed with people and tables.

I hope this week is going by just as slow for them...

My week has gone by extremely slow. It hasn't been a horrible week. The kids at school have not been the best, but really for anyone who knows anything about my job this is actually normal. I helped break up a few fights this week, one that was particularly bad as it included a loss of blood on the students part. I have gotten called a few choice names. I had to chase a student down the hall. I have been sworn at and had a cardboard box thrown at me. So honestly, its been a pretty normal week. None of these things are out of the ordinary.

So I really don't understand why my week has been so slow.

Perhaps it is because my family has all gone on a cruise without me.

They didn't even invite me.

I know.

The nerve of them.

They better get me a present.

But honestly, I really do hope this week has gone by as slow for them as it has for me. That way there trip seems long. That would be nice for them. I really do hope they are having fun.

But I still can be jealous? Right?

And it wasn't completely wrong that I "disliked" my sister's facebook status about leaving?

Just Call this Santa's Workshop....

We are officially turning into elves around here
I mean we have all shrunk a few feet and our ears are getting rather pointy....

Just Kidding.

But really, it does seem like Santa's workshop

First, we decorated our family room

This included stringing popcorn. If you think stringing popcorn sounds
nice, relaxing, cozy, peaceful, and fun you would be very
mistaken. In fact, it kind of sucks. It takes for ever. I really really don't
recommend it. (and yes I am wearing pj bottoms in the pic)

After our house was nice and Christmassy we began to make gifts for our family members.
Since funds are limited (read: we are broke) we have used our creative
talents to make many gifts. Since my family reads this blog I can't post pictures
of what I made at the moment but I'll put them up later. For now here
are some pictures of what our family room looked like at the end of the day.

OOPS....

I hope everyone is getting in the Christmas spirit as much in their homes as we are here!

Cincinnati Weekend

I have very few pictures of my visit to Cinci. I guess I was too busy to stop and take them! It seemed like way too short of a visit.

I went to the Xavier Basketball game and saw two of my favorites. It was a great game (triple overtime!) and my first as an alumni (or is it alumna? whatever).
This is a very very very bad picture of Ken and I. Okay its actually a very bad picture of me.
HaHa. But I couldn't put up a post about my trip without including him. And this is the only picture we took.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving at my Aunts house...

Nana and I

Somehow Alex and I always come to Holidays dressed similiarly
What a cutie
 Jacob's exact words, "I don't do pictures"
We gave Emma olive hands. She was highly amused.
Three year olds are awesome.
My mom and Barb showing what time they play on getting
up to go shopping.
 Two sets of sisters
I swear one second before they were posed nicely to have
their picture taken.
My Kristopher and I
Kris let Sean and I spray whipping cream in his mouth. Sean was
very excited. Kristoper was very brave.
Trying to get a nice picture. Nana fell over.
It was hilarious. Don't worry as you see Lexi caught her.

My Mom love the Dog best....

I went home on Tuesday for Thanksgiving break and it was a crazy few days....

I flew home on Tuesday night
Wednesday was a busy day full of seeing friends
Thursday I drove to Chicago for Thanksgiving
Friday I hung out with my sister and than took the bus to Cincinnati
Saturday I hung out in Cincinnati
Sunday Ken drove me to Columbus where Megan took me to Cleveland, where I flew to Baltimore
It was busy.

On the ride to Chicago my mother made a bed for Molly (the dog) in the (spacious, and not closed off) trunk. Therefore, ALL of our luggage and Christmas presents that we were storing at my aunts house had to be stored in the back seat with me.
Yes, it was crowded.
Yes, I felt unloved.

Linda and Ed laugh at me all squashed in the back
While I am not at all happy
Molly is extremely comfortable in the back.
The highlight of the car ride had to be when this
entire stack of luggage fell on me and while I was buried,
in pain, and screaming my mom exclaimed "MAKE SURE
MOLLY IS OKAY!"

Keep checking back for a post on Thanksgiving and my trip to Cinci

We are way way way too obsessed

We are way too obsessed with Dancing with the stars.

We are also way way too obsessed with Kyle.

Not going to lie we clap and cheer for him.

We also have voted for him.

Many Many times.

Trying to be classy....

This weekend was pretty great. I started it early on Thursday night with a 11:55 showing of Harry Potter. I was exhausted Friday at work but it was worth it. It was amazing. I laughed, I cried, I screamed. The only thing I didn't do was dress up because my cape, which was being mailed to me by my parents arrived a day late. I was deeply depressed. Fortunately, I have it now for part II this summer.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Review

The remainder of my weekend was spent watching movies and doing crafts. And when I say lots of movies I mean that on Sunday Rebecca and I did not leave the coach. However, we made crafts too so I don't feel so bad.

I did get off the couch on Saturday night, however, for a wonderful experience at the Opera with Caitlin. We live by the Peabody College of Music (or something like that) and we were able to attend an Opera there. It was very affordable and so so good. (Not saying that we did this but here is a little advice for those still in college: don't throw out your student ID....)

Here we are looking extremely classy before going out...

What a difference a year makes.

I ran about three miles today. I didn't run that fast. Last year I would have felt like the biggest slacker in the world for only running 3 miles. But this year running three miles is good. I am really proud of myself for running those three miles.
It just seems crazy for me to think about last year. Running was a huge part of my life then. My mood was dictated by my running. My day was dictated by my running.
Now I run when I want to and don't run when I don't want to. When I run I don't worry about the pace. I don't start my watch. When I get tired I take a break. Sometimes I walk a little bit. Running 3 miles is fine now and seems like a reasonable amount to run.
I still do run quite a bit. I mean I don't make a lot of money and can't afford to buy new clothes if I can no longer fit into them. It just is different. Running now is not even close to how running was before. Sometimes I miss how it was before. I miss pushing myself as hard as possible. I miss the feeling after a really hard run.
But sometimes when I am tired and want to stay in and read a book in my bed or when its raining I don't miss it so much. And sometimes when I am running and am doing it because it's something I love and not because someone is standing near by with a stop watch making me, I really like the type of running I do now.

This picture was last year at regionals. If I raced the person in this picture today my butt would get seriously kicked.

~XAVIER~

This past weekend I went to cincinnati!

On Saturday Ken and I drove to Detroit to watch Xavier run at Regionals. This is what I saw for a good portion of Saturday....

I got to have a great Mags reunion (I also have a picture of me with Karen, but I am not putting it up here because I look bad in it)
On Saturday night I had a wonderful time at the mandatory Xavier Cross Country Team Meeting....

And got to admire this wonderful girl and her ring. I love Katie and Joe and am so happy for them!

Fall Retreat

Last week our community went on a retreat to in West Virginia. The woods were beautiful and we really enjoyed the scenery. We stayed in a cabin and did a lot of hiking, roasted marshmallows, saw a lot of deer, ate a lot of junk food, and of course did a lot of retreat type sessions. It was a great time to get away as a group and to refresh ourselves and our outlook on the year. After the retreat we were all able to go back to work with a new perspectives on our jobs, our community, and the world in general.

The girls
 I love deer
I wish I was in this picture but I was taking it

Caitlin, Faith, and I bonded in the back of the mini (that is until I got a little carsick on the way home and had to switch with Rebecca)
 Powerful hikers

I really should post...

We went on a wonderful retreat this week. And had wonderful fall food this weekend. I have pictures to prove it and witty comments to make. I should put these things on my blog. But I also should fold my laundry because it just came out of the dryer and if i don't fold it now its going to be wrinkled. I also should pack because I am going to Cincinnati this weekend. But really. My blog can wait. Who am I kidding? I am not the New York Times here. No one will get angry if I don't post these pictures now. And my laundry, thats what they invented wrinkle release spray for. And I really do have time to pack tomorrow. What I really want to do is get into my bed and go to sleep so that tomorrow I am ready for another day at the crazy, loud, chaotic, and amazing school that I go to each day.

Because it's raining...

Because it is raining
And kind of cold
It is necessary to sit on the couch
And play a game of scrabble
I won
But don't mention this to Faith
She is bitter

Than we watched Jeopardy
And Wheel of Fortune
We are really cool

Cheaters never win

I have been told that Dani and Ken have cheated in the poll. They have both voted more than once and may have coerced others into voting for them.

I am ashamed of these two.

Not only did Linda win, she won without cheating.

On second thought don't I want a partner who will do anything (even cheat) to win?

But they didn't win....

Now I have a lot of thinking to do.

We live in Baltimore...not Utah

On Sunday Faith and I decided we were extremely hungry. So we decided to go to Lexington Market to get something to eat. When we arrived we found that it was closed. WHAT?!? This is a huge market. People grocery shop on Sunday. How can they be closed?
Even though we were very upset, we were still extremely hungry. So we set off to find other options. EVERYTHING WAS CLOSED. EVERYTHING!!! Rite Aid was closed. What? Do Rite Aids even close. We literally walked around for an hour and a half and could not find anything.
Seriously. This is Baltimore. It is not a town that is against working on Sunday. We do not live in the Bible Belt. It is also not 1845.
Now I know being a good Catholic girl I should be writing about how wonderful it is to live in a city that values the Sabath. However, I would have probably valued the Sabbath more if I had also been able to enjoy a delicious hot sandwich from Lexington Market on it.

Here is Faith and I looking extremely dejected after our extremely unsuccessful food run:

October Fun!

I love that the weather is getting cooler and that I get to start wearing sweaters. Saturday night was even cool enough to wear a hat and mittens.
There was a lantern parade in Fells point so we took the Charm City Circulator up the road...
Where there was a free shuttle out to the park.
This sign turned out to be a huge lie. Every 10 minutes and every 45 minutes really are not the same.
However, the free shuttle was actually a really cool party bus....

And even though we were late for the parade it was still pretty awesome
And the Margaritas we got afterward were even better....
